About the role

We are looking for a versatile Engineer to bridge the gap between software development, cloud infrastructure, and security. In this role you’ll work closely with our lean Product Team to help ensure our application ecosystem is resilient secure and performant and while modernize our infrastructure., You’ll be a contributor to our platform helping to keep the system stable, secure, and easy for the team to build on as we grow.

If you thrive on solving complex backend and operational challenges, building automated pipelines, and securing cloud systems while actively looking for ways to leverage next generation engineering tools, this role is for you.

What you will be doing

• Cloud Infrastructure & Reliability: Support and help maintain Poparide’s cloud environment, including our database and storage layer and contribute to infrastructure upgrades OS, language runtimes, framework versions).
• Monitoring & Incident Response: Monitor system health, manage performance, and actively participate in incident response, disaster recovery planning, and post-mortems to continuously improve uptime.
• CI/CD Pipelines & Modernization: Help maintain our existing CI/CD pipelines (Bitrise, GitHub Actions) while driving our move toward a containerized, more automated deployment pipeline, bringing more structure, repeatability, and speed to how we ship.
• Infrastructure & Application Security: Contribute to security work across both application and infrastructure levels, patching vulnerable dependencies, hardening networks and access, and retiring legacy integrations.
• Backend & Developer Experience: Work directly with the backend application code to enhance deployment workflows, improve developer tooling, and optimize overall system scalability.
• AI & Innovation: Explore and integrate AI powered tools to optimize engineering workflows, continuous integration, and infrastructure automation, and bring forward new ways AI can make the team faster and safer.

What we’re looking for

• Infrastructure & SRE : 3+ years of experience managing cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred), including EC2 instance management, database and storage administration, and deployment automation for production systems.
• Containerization & Deployment Modernization: Experience with Docker or similar container-based workflows, and a track record of helping teams move from manual or semi-automated deployments toward containerized, CI/CD-driven pipelines.
• Observability: Experience with CI/CD tools (Bitrise) and observability/monitoring tools (New Relic, Sentry).
• Scripting & Software Development: Strong scripting abilities (Bash, Python) for workflow automation alongside hands-on backend development experience in Python.
• Security Practices: knowledge of security best practices, vulnerability scanning tools, and dependency management
• Problem Solver & AI Enthusiast: Passion for process automation, continuous learning, and exploring AI-augmented development and workflows
• Scaling & Performance: Experience with scaling and optimizing backend systems and databases
• Ownership & Communication: clear communication, capable of bridging conversations across Product, Backend Engineering, and DevOps.
• Adaptability: ability to work independently in a fast-moving environment and team

Nice to have

• Experience working on a small or scaling product team
• Eagerness to embrace AI-driven acceleration to automate developer workflows, infrastructure management, and incident response
• Familiarity with other languages and or frameworks in our tech stack (JavaScript, Django, React Native)
• Familiarity with SOC 2, privacy regulations, compliance, or security best practices

Location

• Full-time contractor role
• Remote in Eastern Europe
• Hours that overlap with Eastern Time to support effective collaboration with the Canadian team
